I just finished Dayshift Werewolf by Jan Underwood. I finished it in a night. It's a quick read, but it should be because it was written in three days. Ms. Underwood was the winner of the 2005 3 Day Novel Contest.
Of course, the book is not really a novel. It is actually a collection of short, interrelated stories involving various monsters in the who all happen to live in or around the town of Stevens' Ferry in the pacific northwest. Obviously a great deal of beleif must be suspended. The monsters are treated as "real", meaning that they do not simply try to kill people (except the zombies) but this is played to comic effect. I can almost hear the author saying to herself "wouldn't it be funny if werewolves had a union..." Of course if you think to hard about this it creates some serious problems. As does the question of how many people are aware of the existence of these monsters in the town and in the world at large. It is best just not to ask these questions and to enjoy the quirky writing and amusing tales that try to prove that what you are does not have to dictate who you are.
